Does Tropical Smoothie use real fruit?
Yes — fruit is the base of these smoothies; that part of the marketing is true. The part the official numbers add: most standard builds are also sweetened beyond the fruit. This page shows both, using the guide's own standard-vs-Splenda sugar figures.
The short answer
Order a standard smoothie and you get real fruit — typically frozen for consistency — blended with juice or a fruit base, plus an added sweetener in most recipes. The clearest evidence is in the brand's own data: for most smoothies the guide publishes two builds, standard and Splenda. The fruit does not change between them — only the sweetener does — so the sugar gap between the two columns is, in effect, the added sweetener.
Fruit sugar vs added sweetener

| Smoothie (24 fl oz) | Sugar, standard build | Sugar, Splenda build | Gap ≈ added sweetener |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blimey Limey | 120 g | 47 g | ≈ 73 g |
| Island Green | 97 g | 33 g | ≈ 64 g |
| Beach Bum (Chocolate Frappe) | 108 g | 49 g | ≈ 59 g |
| Peanut Paradise with Pea | 90 g | 31 g | ≈ 59 g |
| Tropical Dragon Passion | 91 g | 32 g | ≈ 59 g |
| Acai Berry Boost | 102 g | 44 g | ≈ 58 g |
| Avocolada | 107 g | 49 g | ≈ 58 g |
| Bahama Mama | 112 g | 54 g | ≈ 58 g |
| Beach Bum (White Chocolate Frappe) | 109 g | 51 g | ≈ 58 g |
| Blueberry Bliss | 74 g | 16 g | ≈ 58 g |
| Jetty Punch | 76 g | 18 g | ≈ 58 g |
| Kiwi Quencher | 109 g | 51 g | ≈ 58 g |
The gap is the difference between the guide's two published columns, which the source rounds. A small gap means most sugar rides in with the fruit itself; a large gap means the standard build leans on added sweetener.
What this means for your order
- Want the fruit without the added sugar? Order the Splenda build — the table above shows exactly how much sugar it removes, smoothie by smoothie. Every item page and the calculator carry both builds.
- Green does not automatically mean unsweetened. Island Green is the clearest example: 97 g sugar in the standard build, 33 g in the Splenda build.
- Frozen fruit is still real fruit. Cafés freeze for year-round consistency and food safety; freezing does not turn fruit into a flavoring. What changes the health picture is the added sweetener, not the freezer.
- Some blends are mostly fruit sugar already — check the small-gap end of the table before assuming a blend is a sugar bomb.
Frequently asked questions
Does Tropical Smoothie use real fruit or flavoring?
Real fruit is the base of the blends. The official guide's two published builds per smoothie (standard and Splenda) show an added sweetener on top of the fruit in most standard recipes.
Why does the Splenda version still have sugar?
Because the fruit itself contains sugar. The Splenda build removes the added sweetener; the sugar that remains is the fruit's own, plus any juice in the base.
Which smoothie has the least added sweetener?
Look at the gap column above — the smallest gaps are the blends whose standard build adds the least sweetener.
